SHEER MAGIC – by Laura Campbell
In recent years there has been more demand for sheer curtains, due to more contemporary minimalist interiors. Not only do lighter window coverings allow for privacy while not blocking out light, they can also introduce a romanic feel to an interior. One company that Sue Whimster Ltd rely on for transparent, lightweight fabrics is Premier Voile due to the extensive array of textures and colour ways on offer.
Based in Shropshire, Premier Voile was founded by the late Sabih Nashat in the early 1990s who was somewhat of a pioneer in regards to inherently flame retardant fabrics. He worked with Turkish mills, yarn suppliers and finishing houses to perfect the fabrics. At the time there were very few FR fabrics available in the UK. In the early days, the company supplied voiles to most of the big names in the contract furnishing industry such as Panaz, Sinclaire and Hallis Hudson.
Since 2004 the company has been managed by the second generation of the family, Jonnie Nashat and now supplies hundreds of high end linens & IFR fabric options within their collections.
“For the last 20 years we have pushed the envelope to continually produce fabulous designs and quality engineering, not to mention great service,” says Jonnie. “This year we have seen a noticeable move towards more textured sheers such as our Palmerston collection and an uptick in warmer shades such as Ottilie 103.”
Today Premier Voile supplies luxury IFR and natural voiles and sheers all over the world – to the high end residential design sector like Sue Whimster Ltd and big international hotel brands such as Sheraton, Hilton, Marriot, Langham and Waldorf Astoria.
Due to their continued success, Premier Voile has spread their distribution network around the globe to New Zealand, UAE, South Africa, USA, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Taiwan and many European countries.
