Sourcebook | Introducing Wendy Cushing
At Sue Whimster Curtains, we’ve established a trusted network of skilled suppliers and craftspeople that we work together with to ensure our client commissions are exceptionally realised.
One such talent is Wendy Cushing, internationally renowned passementerie and expert in couture trimmings, tiebacks and tassels that are the perfect accompaniment to our bespoke curtain treatments.
An in-the-know resource for many an interior designer, Cushing founded her eponymous business in 1984 and has since worked with an elite list of residences, hotels, yachts, museums and historical palaces with royal clientelle both at home and abroad. She’s also turned her expertise to film and theatre, using her historical fabric knowledge and eye for detail to recreate authentic costume and set pieces.
An advocate for the lost art of passementerie, Cushing is the authority in creating traditional trimmings of braids, ropes and tassels to suit contemporary tastes. All her accessories are hand crafted using time-honoured techniques at the Kings Road flagship; itself a veritable trove of beautiful finishings.
In face of the more minimal trends of recent years, Cushing’s pieces are a striking contrast, with luxurious materials including Murano crystal from Italy, embroidered braids, silk tassels and beautiful polished wood and gilded metal accessories ideal to lend a grandiose finishing touch to décor schemes.
Interior designers after hand crafted trimmings can source direct from the website or can commission Cushing and her team to craft a bespoke piece.
Cushing has also just launched Chelsea Chandeliers, specialising in Italian-designed crystal and Murano glass chandeliers and lighting.
